From Prison to Purpose: The Redemption Story of Dr. Jason Pfledderer

When God steps into a life, nothing stays the same. Few testimonies capture that truth as powerfully as the story of Dr. Jason Pfledderer, a man once lost in addiction and crime, now a pastor, author, and founder of Walking With Jesus Ministries, a faith-based outreach serving men and women rebuilding their lives after incarceration.
Jason’s journey is a story of radical transformation: a living picture of what it means for God to take a broken vessel and make it new.
Before becoming a minister of the Gospel, Jason’s life was marked by rebellion, pride, and addiction. In his early adulthood, a series of destructive choices led to his arrest and a lengthy prison sentence. It was behind those walls, at the lowest point of his life, that Jason encountered the presence of God in a way that forever changed him.
As he later shared in his book, I Thought I Was Tough…Then I Went to Prison, prison became the place where his heart was finally softened. “Who are you?” was the question he wrestled with: a question that ultimately led him to surrender his life to Jesus Christ.
That moment of surrender became the turning point that set the course for everything that would follow.
After his release, Jason knew he had been spared for a purpose. He pursued ministry training and earned a Doctorate in Ministry, but his greatest education came from walking with God through the process of restoration. Out of that journey, Walking With Jesus Ministries was born – a nonprofit dedicated to helping formerly incarcerated individuals transition successfully back into society through the power of faith and community.
Based in Indiana, the ministry provides emergency housing, spiritual mentoring, discipleship classes, and job readiness programs. Every resident who comes through the doors is reminded that no one is too far gone for God to redeem. Through daily devotion, accountability, and love, lives are being transformed, just as Jason’s was years ago.
“Walking With Jesus” isn’t simply a name; it’s the ministry’s heart. It’s about journeying side by side with those who are learning to walk again in freedom, guided by the same Savior who set them free.
Jason’s testimony has reached far beyond the ministry’s walls through his books, including I Thought I Was Tough…Then I Went to Prison, Breaking God Into Prison, and How to Overcome. Each title carries the same message of hope: that God can redeem any life, no matter how far it has fallen.
His writing speaks directly to those who feel trapped by their past, offering practical wisdom and biblical truth for walking in freedom. Whether it’s a prisoner behind bars or a believer struggling with spiritual bondage, Jason’s words remind readers that there is always a way out through Jesus Christ.
Under Dr. Pfledderer’s leadership, Walking With Jesus Ministries has expanded to include international outreach, partnering with churches and leaders around the world to share the Gospel and train disciples. The ministry supports pastor training in Africa, prison outreach programs, and faith-based recovery initiatives—proof that when God redeems one life, He often uses it to reach many others.
Through prayer, service, and generosity, countless individuals have found renewed purpose, healing, and the hope of salvation.
Today, Dr. Jason Pfledderer continues to share his story not to glorify his past, but to glorify the God who rescued him from it. His life is a testimony to the truth that no one is beyond God’s reach.
From the cellblock to the pulpit, from despair to discipleship, Jason’s journey is living proof that God still specializes in redemption.

At Walking With Jesus Ministries, that same hope is offered every day – to the broken, the hurting, and the lost – one step at a time, walking with Jesus.
